Sequencing: The foundation of video storytelling

The article "Sequencing: The foundation of video storytelling" has great advice on shooting a proper video. I've summarized the best pointers below.

- The sequence is the foundation of all video storytelling. Sequences compress time in a video story.

- Look for shots that could be great openers or enders in your video.

- Use a variety of wide, medium and tight shots to give the story more interest.

- Compress a long clip that films everything into a short clip that interests and lets the veiwer picture what will happen next.

- Try to remember to shoot a variety of shots. It’s most important to hold your shots for about 10 seconds each.

- Anticipate the action. Be creative with your shots. Get the camera low or high. Zoom in on something interesting.

- Weight your shots to the tight and super tight end of the shooting spectrum. Tight shots make great transitions between two wide shots or two medium shots.

- Make sure you capture shots you can use to transition from one story segment to another.

Collage

My theme is nature/school. I chose a long cement path with grass peeking through and on the sides of it as my background. I took a separate picture of a car coming down an alley of the school and made it look like it was heading towards me down the path. Then i added a sewer and garabage can on the path. Next to the path i cropped a row of bikes, a football post, a stop sign, a pilon and a tennis ball. Then i put me and Maya in the picture. Last, I turned a peice of a fence on an angle for some 3-D action. I added some flowers and bushes to make it look more wild.

Compositional Elements

Rule of thirds: The rule states that an image should be broken down into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that the important parts of the picture should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Using this creates more energy and interest in the picture. The two first photos are good examples because the focal points of both images are centered in the very middle using the rule of thirds.
Mood:
to take the veiwer to the location of the photo to feel like the photographer did when they were taking the picture. They could have the feeling of intense action, danger happiness ect. One of the most common elements you could form into an image would be fog. It allows the veiwer to imagine whats in the backround of the picture and have a feeling of what the experience was like for the photographer. The two bottoms photos are really good examples of mood in photography because they give you the feeling of actually being there. The rain makes you feel cold and the fog makes you feel lost and gloomy.

Expressive Lighting Technique

Lights and tracing motion effects are great for advertizing. They can become a part of composition. It adds brightness and motion to an image. They're an excellent trick because the details can make a subtitle look more attractive and compelling. Also it can make magazines pop out at you and make you want to buy them. I find it makes anything appear 3-D. The expressive lighting technique can improve any photograph.

Interesting Photographer

On the internet I noticed a guy named Jansen Gunderson. He's a landscaping photographer. I love his work because it's eye catching. The pictures he takes have many dimentions. Jansen has the skill of getting the perfect angles. His pictures have so many levels to it. My eyes travel across the entire picture. I like the blends of colour and lighting he uses. The pictures he has on his website are very good quality. Jansens work seems 3D to me. I don't think there are any dull sections in his pictures. He inspires me. His website is www.jansengunderson.com/jg/

Random Album Cover 2

My second random album covers band name is OIL CREEK. I made it smaller than the quote because I wanted the quote to be known and popping out. I chose the colour red to resemble the fire hydrants. The bands name is smaller and in capital letters. I chose to position the name under the quotation and a little off the center of the backround picture for an un-usual look.

Random Album Cover 1

Making my first random album cover, I got the band name Rule from Wikipedia. I wanted the band name to be in a clear and bold font. Using the colours that are in the womans sweater and the shadow behind her neck, I got the colours beige and black. The random quote I had to use was beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I used cursive writing and a drop shadow to make it look rich. I chose dark red to match her lipstick.

Obama Exersize

My first attepmt of cropping Obama with the magnetic lasso tool didn't work. It cut out his ears and wasn't co-operating with me. Then I got told to try and use extract and it worked successfully. I used the earaser to remove all the excess backround i didn't want. After that I used the magnetic lasso tool and it got every part of him that I needed.

Celebrity Photo

My image includes the celebrity Miley Cyrus leading a group of Africans who look like they are traveling to bring flowers somewhere. This photo is incongruous because Miley Cyrus is a teenage girl who is very busy with her career and wouldnt be in Africa. It's quite weird because Miley Cyrus has no African heritage. Her punkish classy style of clothing sticks out from what the African girls are wearing. Miley also has a smile on her face. The women behind her have serious looks among thiers.
